USY Game and Lounge Night!

Weekly Message from Sarah Rothberg VP 1/27/10

Dear USYers,
This is your SATO vice president, Sarah Rothberg! MLK Weekend was a BLAST and we have many more programs coming your way! USY Game and Lounge Night is coming up on Saturday, February 6th from 7pm-11pm. This is for high schoolers only. Feel free to bring a friend! There will be games, movies, snacks, karaoke, and so much more. And did I mention it’s FREE?! The next fun-packed program is BSKI’s very own PURIM CARNIVAL! Every year Kadima and USY dress in costume to set up and run the carnival. Set up will be on Feb 29 and the carnival is on the 1st. If you forget those dates, just check out the events page on the website! There will be lots of fun booths and prizes and an African Dancer will be performing. Can’t wait to see all of you at our upcoming programs!

Message from Co-President Wendy 1/19/2010:

Dear friends and parents,
I hope everyone is doing well at the start of second semester. Winter break was rejuvenating and now I am back to work with school. The Kadima and USY boards are also hard at work creating fun programs for you! This past weekend we had our annual Kadima/USY MLK weekend sleepover.  We made soup packets for the food pantry and goodie bags for kids in hospitals. We watched tons of movies, went out late to IHOP and the next day worked at the Jewish Food Pantry. Everyone who came had a blast helping the needy and hanging out.  We have a couple more programs in the works for Kadimanicks and USYers before the joint Purim Carnival on March 1st, which is going to be amazing. Hope to see ya’ll around.

A Message from Rachel 12/14/09

 Hey USYers!
Its almost time for Chanukah, so get ready to pull out the potatoes and gelt! Remember, as you buy gifts for your family and friends, you can also purchase a small toy to donate to the Toys for Tots program.  It doesn't cost much, and it makes an enormous difference in a child's holiday. You can donate new toys in the Toys for Tots box in the lobby of BSKI.  On a different note, this Saturday, BSKI USY is having a huge   Chanukah party at the synagogue with BAUSY and SZSL.  We'll be making latkes, spinning dreidels, and partying with the hit bard, The Northwoods.  Just come down the BSKI this Saturday night at seven, to have a great time with all of your USY friends.  We'll be partying from seven to eleven. I can't wait to see you there!
Have a great Chanukah!

A message from Wendy:  11/30/09

Hello Everyone!

This is Wendy Low your BSKI USY Co-President. This past Sunday I got back from Kansas City from Kinnus 2009, "Across the Jewniverse." It was a really amazing time. I got to reconnect with my old friends from Denver and Minnesota and makes new friends too. Although I missed Thanksgiving dinner with my family, there was some really good food at the convention and I was thankful to have such awesome friends from around the country. Programming included lessons to be learned from Jewish texts and the Beatles, Arab-Israeli Conflict Discussion, The Northwoods Concert, a Dance, and Shticky Situation, an improv group.
Kinnus is a Jewish weekend filled with eating, praying and socializing; but it is more than all that. For me, Kinnus is a way to reconnect with my Judaism in a different way.  I get the opportunity to pray three times a day  with a congregation of 216 other Jewish teens. I never have to explain any customs or words, I just live and act Jewish for the weekend. For all you that that have been to a Jewish convention, you understand what I am saying. For all of you who have never gone to one, I strongly suggest you attend one at some point. It is an experience like no other.  There were many people from the various chapter for whom this was their first convention and they all told me they had a really fun time. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I look forward to seeing you at future USY programs.
Sincerely,
Wendy Low
